Help with your Childcare Costs
There are a number of payment and childcare support options available, and managers are happy to talk through the detail with you:
Government Funding
All funding is administered by Warwickshire County Council, and paid directly to the nursery. In all cases, funding applies the term after your child reaches the ages detailed below.
Full details are available at the Childcare Choices website: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
Funding for Working Families
Funded hours are offered by the government to support eligible working families with the cost of childcare. Funding is calculated based on a 38-week school year, but is spread over a full year to better suit the needs of working parents.
9 months – 15 hours funded childcare over 38 weeks = 570 funded hours per year can be allocated to your annual bookings, reducing the cost to you.
From September 2025 the above funded hours are doubled to 1,140 hours per year.
3 years – 30 hours funded childcare over 38 weeks = 1,140 funded hours per year can be allocated to your annual bookings, reducing the cost to you.
Other Funding Available
2 years – This funding is available to families receiving certain benefits or tax credits, and referrals can be made for children with special or additional needs.
One full day per week over 51 weeks is available under this scheme. Visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/childcarecosts for more information.
3 years – All children become eligible for 570 funded hours per year the term after they turn 3.
Universal Credit and childcare
You may be able to claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs if you’re eligible for Universal Credit.
Eligible families usually need to either be working (no minimum number of hours) or have a job offer.
Further information is available here: https://www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/universal-credit
Education Funding (CCG)
If you’re attending college or university, you may qualify for childcare funding which can cover up to 85% of costs. Please enquire with the Student Services department at your institution.
Tax-Free Childcare
Tax-Free childcare is a government scheme that helps save money on the cost of approved childcare. For every £8 you pay into this account, the government will pay in £2 to be used to pay your provider.
You can get Tax-Free Childcare at the same time as funded childcare, if you’re eligible for both.
Visit the Childcare Choices website for further details, www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.
